TINIE TEMPAH SAYS EMINEM INSPIRES HIM

Last May, Tinie Tempah dropped his debut album, Disc-Overy, to much critical acclaim. Despite his personal success, Tinie told us that he credits his decision to become a rapper to renowned chart-topper Eminem.

“I heard The Slim Shady LP and I heard The Marshall Mathers LP sort of at the same time. The Slim Shady LP was out way before, but when I heard The Marshall Mathers LP I went and got The Slim Shady LP. And that was the first time I really wanted to do hip-hop, it was the first time I’d heard music that wasn’t necessarily about love and heartbreak, and your typical generic sort of subjects within the realms of music.”

He added that Eminem’s controversial lyrics drew him to the “Love the Way You Lie” rapper.

“This guy was controversial. This guy was saying things that was ruffling people’s feathers. He was on the news. There was protests about him. People were telling me not to listen to his CD. And I loved that! I was like ‘This is amazing,’ this makes me want to listen to it even more. So he was one of the first major influences.”

Tinie’s latest single, “Till I’m Gone,” featuring Wiz Khalifa, is available now.

BEYONCE DELAYS A STAR IS BORN FILMING?

According to Deadline.com, Beyonce’s pregnancy might force her to delay filming her leading role in Clint Eastwood’s remake of A Star Is Born. A source told the site, “Warner Bros was hoping to start production on Clint Eastwood’s musical remake of A Star Is Born as early as February 2012. But now insiders tell me it ‘could push’ because Beyoncé announced her pregnancy at MTV’s VMAs. That will give the studio more time to settle on a male co-star for the singer/actress since Eastwood’s first choice, Leonardo DiCaprio, isn’t doing the pic.” Will Smith and Christian Bale are still being considered to star as the leading male in the film. No further details are known.

CELEBRITIES REMEMBER AALIYAH

Tonight, BET will air their upcoming special, Aaliyah: One In A Million, to mark the 10th anniversary of the tragic passing of the R&B singer. It’s hard to believe that she was killed a decade ago in a plane crash. We caught up with famous faces like Johnny Gill, Jordin Sparks and others to see what they remember most about the singer who Timbaland and Missy Elliott affectionately called “Babygirl.” BET’s Aaliyah: One In A Million airs tonight (8/25) at 8 PM Eastern and Pacific.

· Ciara told Billboard.com, “[Aaliyah] was true to who she was and she didn’t seem to care about it. The core of her art to me is heavily, heavily urban based. When an artist’s music is so urban based, sometimes people like to take risks with artists like that. When you think about it, it really is pop, it really is cultural and that’s the one thing that I thought was cool about her music is that it never felt like she was trying to reach across or do anything more than just keep that cool, soulful, heavy urban core about it.”

· While promoting the collector’s edition of her debut album, songs in A minor, Alicia Keys told Rap-Up.com that “If I Ain’t Got You” actually “came together right after Aaliyah passed away. It was such a sad time and no one wanted to believe it. It just made everything crystal clear to me—what matters, and what doesn’t.”

· Ginuwine, who was a close friend of the late singer, told TheBoomBox.com that if she were still alive today, she’d be serious competition for Beyonce. The R&B crooner believes “Aaliyah was in a class by herself, if Aaliyah were still here, she and Beyonce would be neck and neck. Everyone should aspire to be someone great… Aaliyah was one of the great ones.”
