It’s hard to believe, but more than a year has passed since Raven Sorvino‘s last musical project. Don’t get it misunderstood – the Houston-born, Leimert Park-bred Breakout Queen’s last outing, the Queen of HeArtz EP, is still sneaking into the rotation every so often, and she closed out 2014 strong channeling Pam Grier. But its long-awaited The Supreme version is still in the oven slow roasting to perfection. Thankfully, Sorvino had other plans to ensure her name would remain in conversation going into 2015.
The result of those “other plans?” The Life$tyle EP, Raven’s first project of the year but more than likely not her last. With Aktive producing the entire project – and frequent Sorvino collaborator Woody’s Produce co-producing the smooth “Planet of the BAPES” – the Life$tyle EP is seven tracks deep. You might expect that being titled “Lifestyle,” Young Thug or even Rich Homie Quan would pop up. Sadly, neither of them is present here, but Raven DOES get strong assists from features Doley Bernays, Johnny Phrank, and Smokey Lane.
Aktive does a good job of providing sounds that cater to Sorvino’s versatility as an artist, whether it’s laying down a bounce music-inspired strip club anthem in the making on the upbeat “Shawty’s” or the laid-back yet vicious “Alpaca Fur” (which features an American Gangster audio sample and Sorvino holding her own alongside Bernays and Smokey with lines like “I make it rain, that’s Soul 4 Real”. -Dayandadream

Italian fashion designer has Roberto Cavalli has named Nicki Minaj the face of his Spring/Summer 2015 campaign. For the line’s new ad, the Queen gracefully showcases some of the upcoming wear.
“I chose Nicki Minaj because she embodies the exuberant and modern femininity of the Cavalli woman. In recent years we have become accustomed to women castigated in clothes that hide their body shapes. With this campaign, I wanted to send a strong countertrend message. I wanted a sensual woman who is aware of her body, who is not afraid to show her curves, rather she make them as a strength”. – Roberto Cavalli
